Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout. It pours dark as night with a thick brown head. Absolutely amazing. Probably one of the best beers I’ve ever had. Enjoy your Saturday night, Oppo.

Russia’s greatest love machine?

(other than a Lada, of course)

My friend, who fancies himself as a beer connoisseur, loves that stuff. I still need to get some.

Yes! Amazing stuff. The Met, (top end steak house in Seattle,) had it for a while on their short list. I didn’t even know you could get it in 22s - where did you pick it up?

Same here! My best friend is a beer snob and I tried this a few years ago when he bought some. Saw it at the grocery story today and grabbed a bottle. HOLY SHIT. I forgot how good it was.

Unbelievably good. I haven’t had it in years. It’s fantastic!

I got it in a grocery store! My mom’s car was in the shop so I chauffeured her around all around after I got off work today. She felt badly for having me drive her around and bought me a ton of beer.

I haven’t had Old Rasputin for years and she told me to pick what I wanted so I chose this and a case of Busch Signature cause I’m an idiot. I don’t regret it haha

You know, I’ve always found it to be overrated. All the other beer nerds I know give me endless shit for it.

Really? That’s surprising! I’ve tried too many beers to count and it’s definitely up there.

Off topic, but I know you’re a huge tequila fan. What would you recommend for a tequila newb? A friend of mine went to TCU and became quite familiar with tequila and he’s gotten me somewhat into it. He buys killer tequila but I I forgot the name of it. I want to try more tequila but I’m not sure of where to start. What would you recommend?

Imperial stouts are one of the reasons to drink beer. Good stuff.

It’s tough to find the really good stuff in the States. If you get lucky and find a good shop, my favorites under $100 I’ve ever found this side of the border are Cava de Oro, Tres Manos, and Los Azulejos (in that order, all Anejo). Check Bevmo, they carry Tres Manos from time to time. For cheaper and easier to find stuff, Jimador Anejo is my go-to for Margaritas. It’s a bit harsher than is ideal for sipping straight, but it has a great smokey flavor to it that makes up for it. You can’t do better for the money. Milagro Anejo is also pretty good for the money, but they keep getting bigger and bigger, and the quality is slipping. Same thing happened to Cazadores, which used to be awesome, but is pretty undrinkable now. Revolucion Anejo is really good too, but I think that one’s a bit pricier. A couple I’ve been seeing around recently that I like are Peligroso Blanco and Siete Leguas Anejo. Tequila’s fun man. It’s nice that people in the US are getting more into it, so some of the more boutique producers are starting to sell in the US.
